The World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines put in place to curb the coronavirus pandemic have sent a ripple effect of delays and cancellations across the entertainment and sports industries. With over 81.5 million cases of the virus worldwide, celebrities and civilians alike are still trying their best to to hunker down at home, even as restrictions are being eased on a state by state basis. On March 11, Tom Hanks announced that he and his wife, actress and musician Rita Wilson, caught the virus while traveling for work, marking Hollywood’s first high-profile case of the outbreak. Other global/local celebrities, such as Idris Elba and Kanye West, soon followed with their respective diagnosis experiences, as did top personalities Pink, Jordan Ayew, and Naa Ashorkor.
As the virus continues to spread at an alarming rate, those in the public eye afflicted with the coronavirus, who often have access to testing through private physicians, are urging fans and followers to self-isolate. Tragically, the death toll continues to rise — and good-faith attempts to restart the entertainment and sports industries are being met with mixed success.
