Billboard Ranks Top 5 Ghanaian Local Champions. Shatta Wale Tops All

The music industry standard record chart in the USA for songs, Billboard Magazine has ranked the top local artistes in Ghana and dancehall juggernaut, Charles Nii Armah Mensah who is popularly known as Shatta Wale has been placed in the coveted first position.

The self-acclaimed dancehall king finished first ahead of Sarkodie in 2nd, Stonebwoy in 3rd, Diana Antwi Hamilton in 4th and Takoradi-based singer/rapper/songwriter Kofi Kinaata made it to 5th position.

In an orderly arranged and credible manner, Billboard used streaming figures from YouTube over period of one year — May 1, 2019 to May 1, 2020 to sum up these figures.

In duration of this period, Shatta Wale garnered a whopping 13.2M views, followed by Sarkodie on 11.8M, Stonebwoy on 7.8M, Diana Hamilton on 6.4M and Kofi Kinaata on 4.6M.

Billboard‘s list was titled “the most-watched homegrown artistes across Africa“.

In view of Shatta Wale, the Magatus wrote: “Shatta Wale‘s 2019 album is called Wonder Boy, and the singer/songwriter/actor seems determined to live up that name. The country‘s two biggest political parties have used his songs in campaigns; his 2018 album “Reign“ hit No. 6 on Billlboard‘s Top World Album chart; and in April, he organized the “virtual faith concert“ to cheer up fans and fellow Ghanaians during the coronavirus pandemic“.
