The National Communications officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has launched a fresh attack on Electoral Commission chairperson, Madam Jean Adukwei Mensah, describing her as a ‘confidence trickster’ and a ‘thief’.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, he indicated that Jean Mensah’s decision to evade cross-examination in the ongoing election petition is an attempt to run away from public ridicule and being exposed for rigging the 2020 polls for President Akufo-Addo.
“I have never had respect for this woman from day one. She is a thief,” he was quoted by peacefmonline.
On 9 December, the Electoral Commission announced that incumbent 76-year-old Akufo-Addo, flagbearer for the centre-right New Patriotic Party, had won 51.6% of the votes in the presidential contest, about half of the million-vote margin that brought him victory in 2016 (when he got 53.7% of the votes).
However, John Mahama of NDC fame who was President of Ghana from 2011 to 2016 says he rejects the official results in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
